Obituary for Earl W. Chellis Jr.

BEACON FALLS, CT: Earl W. Chellis, Jr., age 90 of Beacon Falls entered peaceful rest on June 30, 2014 in Terryville; he was the beloved husband of the late Edith M. (Potter) Chellis. Mr. Chellis was born June 7, 1924 in Seymour, son of the late Earl W., Sr. and Mary (Winsco) Chellis. He retired after 44 years as a Supervisor from the New Haven Copper Company, formerly in Seymour. Earl was a decorated WW II U.S. Army Veteran; and he was the first to land with the First Infantry on D-Day in Normandy. He received two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star. Mr. Chellis was a member of the Seymour Veteran's of Foreign Wars, and the Emil Senger, Post 10 American Legion. Earl enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He leaves his loving family including, his sons, William Earl Chellis, Sr. of Camano Island, WA, and Gary Chellis of Terryville, his grandchildren, William Earl Chellis, Jr. of Beacon Falls, Tracy Chellis-Devlin of Seattle, WA, Kristen Chellis of Washington, DC, and Matthew Chellis of Havre, MT. His sister, Evelyn Chellis predeceased him. The Family would like to thank the Waterbury VNA HOPE team nurses for the compassionate care given to Earl. Calling Hours will be held Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour. Funeral Services in celebration of Earl's life will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment with Full Military Honors will be in Trinity Cemetery, Seymour.
