Life Story for William N. Blackwood

OXFORD, CT: William N. Blackwood, age 93 of Oxford entered peaceful rest on October 4, 2014 at Shady Knoll Health Center, Seymour; he was the beloved husband of the late Virginia (Witek) Blackwood. Mr. Blackwood was born July 26, 1921 in Linwood, Scotland, son of the late William G. and Mary (Campbell) Blackwood. William was retired from Yale University as a carpenter; he was also Past President of the Union there. He was a communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Seymour; he was a WW II U.S. Army veteran, and was a member of the David S. Miles Post 174, American Legion; he volunteered for many years with the Housatonic Council Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Blackwood had helped organize and fund the Explorer Drum Corps. William leaves his loving family including a son, William G. Blackwood of Oxford, his grandchildren, Neill Blackwood of Brandywine, MD, and Amanda Johnson of Somerville, OH, also a great grandson, Logan Johnson, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Irene Blackwood, and his companion, Catherine Bialecki. Calling Hours will be Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated directly following at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Rd., Seymour.
