Obituary for Regina Poniatowski (Palangiewicz)

Regina Palangiewicz Poniatowski, age 83, of Southbury, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Thursday, December 4, 2014. Born in Poland on March 10, 1931, she was the 3rd of 4 children of the late Zygmund & Maria Palangiewicz. As a young child in war torn Poland, she began a challenging young life as a war refugee, spending time in a German work camp, escaping to Africa as a young girl with her mother and sister, and fortunately reuniting with her whole family in England, before settling in Canada. Years later she met Stanley Poniatowski at a polish dance in Montreal, and were married in 1954, finally moving to the states. Regina and Stanley lived in Stratford and raised five children. In 1987, they moved to Seymour to be closer to children until Stanley’s death in 2008. Regina, is survived by a daughter, Mary, with husband Donald Ackley and their daughter, Melissa of Cardiff, CA; a son, Stanley, with wife Debbie and their children, Jessica and Shaun of Glendale, AZ; a daughter, Teresa Kregling, with husband Karl and their daughters, Stephanie, Jaclyn and Alissa of Seymour; a son, Richard, with wife Michele and their sons, Michael and Benjamin of Beacon Falls; a daughter, Helen Kochiss, with husband Joseph and their children, Jonathan, Jason and Ashley of Woodbury; a sister, Danuta Szyszka of Montreal, Canada. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Edward and Victor Palangiewicz, both of Montreal. A Service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 9:15 a.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour, with a Christian Funeral Service to follow at 10:00 am at the Seymour Congregational Church, Seymour. Interment in Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
