Obituary for Mary Celestina Poeta (Tomassini)

BEACON FALLS CT- Mary Celestine Poeta, age 78, of Beacon Falls, beloved wife of Louis Poeta, died on Friday, July 10, 2015 in her home. Born in Derby on March 6th, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Peruzzini Tomassini. She worked for many years at Uniroyal Chemical before retiring. Most importantly, in her life, she never failed to let her pride and love for her family be known to all. Giving to those she cared for without asking anything in return was her occupation. She loved Italian music, great films, and an evening at the theatre. Mary was an active member of St. Michael’s Parish and the Beacon Falls Senior Center. An afternoon spent chatting, cooking, and eating was her idea of a perfect day. Those who had the pleasure of being a guest in her home were never wanting for good food, conversation, and a laugh. In addition to her husband of 56 years, survivors include her loving children: daughter, Cindy Poeta of Seymour; son, Louis Poeta and his wife Janet of Beacon Falls, and son Tony Poeta of North Carolina; sister, Marceline Staffieri and her husband Dominic of Hamden; 8 cherished grandchildren, Michael, James and Claire Mordowanec, April Packard and her husband Jon-Erik, Morgan, Joe, Zoe and Celeste Poeta; 2 adored great-grandchildren, Madison and Mason, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Laura Poeta Mulinski and daughter-in-law, Amy Poeta. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 10:00 am DIRECTLY in St. Michael Church, 25 Maple Ave. Beacon Falls. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery, Derby. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church St. Seymour, CT 06483. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Smilow Cancer Hospital 20 York Street New Haven, CT 06510 (http://www.giveclosertofree.org/).
