David Albert Nelson, Sr., born January 18, 1937 to William H. and Alice (Smith) Nelson, passed peacefully on November 26, 2015 (aged 78) in Branford. He was born and raised in Bridgeport, where he met his wife of 58 years, Peggy (Rogers) Nelson, before settling in Oxford. Dave worked for many years as a tool and die manufacturing engineer, retiring early. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed grocery shopping with his daughter Linda every Wednesday and doing jigsaw puzzles in his free time. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, David A. Nelson, Jr. of Beacon Falls, Virginia Potrepka and her husband Chester of Southington, and Linda Chamenko and her husband Robert of Beacon Falls; brothers, George Nelson of Monroe, and Lawrence Nelson of Estero, FL; seven grandchildren of whom he was very proud, Jessica (Potrepka) Arsenault of Southington, Alexandra Chamenko of East Windsor, Gregory and Andrew Potrepka of Southington, and Hugh, Kirk and Ian Chamenko of Beacon Falls, as well as many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and friends. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will take place on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 2pm in Great Hill United Methodist Church, 225 Great Hill Rd., Seymour. There will be no calling hours and interment will be at the convenience of the family.
