Obituary for Patricia Kozey (Zern)
SEYMOUR: Patricia (Zern) Kozey, age 83 of Seymour, beloved wife of Russell Kozey, entered peaceful rest on Monday, January 9, 2023 in Bridgeport Hospital. Born in White Plains, NY, on February 3, 1939, she was a daughter of the late James, Sr. and Helen (Fuchs) Zern.
Mrs. Kozey graduated from Warren Harding High School, Magna Cum Laude, Bridgeport, in 1956, and attended Post College. A devout parishioner of Church of the Good Shepherd (St. Nicholas Parish) and member of their Parish Counsel for 9 years, Patricia was very active in her ministries, organizing A New Day Bereavement Group (the first in the Valley), being a Eucharistic Minister, Officer in Our Lady’s Society, as well as volunteering as Parish Secretary. She conducted Renew Groups for small Christian Communities, was a commissioned Lay Minister in Health Care and Bereavement, visiting homes, hospitals and nursing homes, while also providing transportation for individuals to doctor’s offices. Mrs. Kozey was also a Pastoral Care Volunteer at Griffin Hospital. For all her contributions, Patricia was presented the prestigious Hartford Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation Award.
Patricia was a teacher’s aide at Bungay School, Seymour, for many years and also volunteered at Assumption School, Ansonia. She taught CCD for 14 years and was a Girl Scout Brownie Leader. Mrs. Kozey retired from Hewitt Memorial Hospital, working as their Administrative Secretary for 18 ½ years. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, knitting and crafts, but above all else, she loved her family beyond words.
In addition to her beloved husband, Russell, of 62 years, survivors include her loving son, James M. Kozey; 2 cherished grandchildren, Ross M. VanNostrand and his wife Jen, and Edmond Garrett Rioux; 2 adored great-grandchildren, Madison Rae and Blake Russell VanNostrand; brother, James W. Zern and his wife Ellie, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Patricia was predeceased by her loving daughter, Patricia A. Kozey.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 3pm to 6pm in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St. Seymour, CT 06483. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023 at 10am DIRECTLY in Church of the Good Shepherd (St. Nicholas Parish), 135 Mountain Rd. Seymour, CT 06483 and interment will follow in Mt. Meadows Cemetery, Seymour. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Patricia’s name can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105.
