Barbara Ann Downs, age 79 of Oxford entered peaceful rest at her home on January 22, 2021; she was the beloved wife of John Downs, Sr. Mrs. Downs was born July 12, 1941 in Scranton, PA, daughter of the late Theodore J. and Bertha (Wisneski) Kasztejna). Barbara grew up in Seymour, and graduated from Seymour High School Class of 1959; she was retired from Country Curl in Shelton as a Hairdresser where she was employed for 30 years; she also was a retired clerk from Oxford Pharmacy where she also worked for over 30 years. Mrs. Downs was a communicant of St. Nicholas Parish-The Church of the Good Shepherd; she was a member of the Riverside Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, and also the Oxford Senior Center. She enjoyed cooking, baking, working in her flower gardens, and attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events over the years. Traveling to see all 50 States with her husband and close friends Betty & Bill Stordy and summer vacations at the Jersey shore were annual events.
In addition to her husband John of 60 years, Barbara leaves her loving family including her sons, John Downs, Jr., and his wife Bobbie of Oxford, and Kevin Downs of Ft. Worth, TX; her grandchildren, Joshua, Ethan, Marisa, and Griffin all of Oxford, and her niece, Theresa Popowski of Seymour. She also leaves her granddog Honey. Her sister Delores Popowski predeceased her.
Walk-Through Calling Hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at ST. Nicholas Parish-Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Rd., Seymour (DIRECTLY.)
