Obituary for Barbara A. Golias (Vasilas)

Barbara A. Golias (Vasilas)
BEACON FALLS, CT: Barbara (Vasilas) Golias, age 66 of Beacon falls entered into peaceful rest March 15, 2013 in Derby; she was the beloved wife of Daniel Golias. Barbara was born December 9, 1946 in Derby, daughter of Ruth (Rosen) Vasilas of Belleview, FL and the late James Vasilas. In Barbara's early years she resided on Woodbridge Ave., Ansonia; the family later moved to 73 Academy Hill, Derby. Barbara was always an avid reader. Even at a very early age she would bring home 4 or 5 books each week from the library until she exhausted the supply of books for her age group. She then became very interested in history, especially the stories about the great conquerors, Kings and Queens of ancient times. Barbara had an eloquent speaking voice and was often called upon to read for her class. She graduated from Derby High School in 1965 and then attended Stone School of Business in New Haven. In 1978 Barbara was hired by Branson Cleaning Equipment in Shelton as Purchasing Secretary. It was there she met a stock clerk by the name of Dan Golias who quickly became the love of her life and later her husband. Barbara took an early retirement option from Branson in 1991 which gave her lots of time for reading, home making, cooking great meals, and gardening with her husband where they enjoyed a wonderful home in Beacon Falls. Barbara was often sought out by family and friends for her impeccable advice with regard to relationships, and the trials and tribulations of life in general. Her husband Dan would be the first to say that her encouragement and advice throughout the years was the key to his success.

In addition to her husband and mother, Barbara leaves 3 sisters, Ruth Cannici and her husband Justin of Belleview, FL, Eva Vasilas and her companion Matt Perez of Ocklawaha, FL, and Deborah Hulvey and her husband Jay of Ocala, FL, a brother, James Vasilas and his wife Audrey of Belleview, FL, 4 nieces, Kim Cannici, Belleview, FL, Jennifer Rivera and her husband Frankie of Ocala, FL, Allyson Soard and her husband Doug of Ocala, FL, and Jessica Stadnick and her husband Jason of Ocala, FL, 3 nephews, James Connolly and his wife Lisa of Ocala, FL, James Vasilas and his wife Wendy of Des Moines, IA, and Jacob Hulvey of Ocala, FL, and cousins, Phyllis Spak and her husband Andrew of Oxford, Carol Gabianelli and her husband Al of The Villages, FL, and Trudy Pertoso of The Villages, FL, John Kichar of Ansonia, and David Kichar in California.
