Obituary for Bernice J. Ahlgren

NAUGATUCK CT-Bernice Jane Ahlgren, age 88 of Naugatuck, beloved wife of the late Franklin A. Ahlgren, entered peaceful rest on Monday, December 9, 2019 in her home surrounded by family. Born in East Greenwich, Rhode Island on January 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Harold Bowen and Inez (Rodman) Anderson. A seamstress for Warner’s (Bridgeport), Bernice enjoyed sewing and continued sewing privately and for local seamstress shops even when she moved to Oxford in 1966 with her husband where they lived for 49 years. Bea took great pride in being a housewife, baking fresh breads and rolls from scratch and was a wonderful cook often hosting the holidays for her family. Her home was a happy place full of love and when one entered; be it family, friends, or a new comer, they were met with huge smiles and big hugs giving you the sense you were the most important person ever. She had a wonderful sense of humor and truly enjoyed her family and the life God gave her. She was a lover of nature, gardening and animals, especially shepherd dogs. Early in their marriage, Bea would enter her shepherds in many obedience competitions along with her husband and their close friends Carolyn and Ike Chernak. Bea will be missed tremendously by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. We are all the better having been blessed by her love and devotion. Survivors include her sister Barbara Dickinson of Palatka, Fl.; her nieces Stepheny Cappel of Fl, and Sue Ford (Mark) of Naugatuck with whom she resided the past 5 years; her nephew Harold Dickinson of Oxford; her niece, Linda Kale (Louis) of Monroe, as well as several great nieces and nephews in Florida: Rebecca Crabtree (Mart), Barbara Rowland (William), Neal Schebell (Leslie), April Schebell, Alyssa Sweat (Gary), Caitlin Cappel, and Frank Cappel, and several great great nieces and nephews. In CT, her great niece Ashley DeBarber (Jon Lango), Olivia Kale, Haley Ford, Olivia Ford, and great nephews John W. Plaskon, Nicholas Kale, Maxwell Kale, Jordan Ford, Mason Ford (Carissa), and great great nephew Elias Peter Lango. Also a special thank you to her devoted caregiver Carissa Ford for being the best “Bea Keeper” one could ask for. She was pre-deceased by her sister Nancy Bernardo, her niece Jennifer Dickinson-Cirino, and nephew Robert Dickinson, Jr. Services will take place on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:00 DIRECTLY in Southford Cemetery, Route 67 Oxford, CT 06478.
