Obituary for Calvin F. "Cal" Martin

SOUTHBURY, CT: Calvin F. "Cal" Martin, age 93 of Southbury, formerly of Florida, and was a former long time resident of Beacon Falls, entered peaceful rest on December 3, 2018 at his home; he was the beloved husband of the late Betty (Kiefer) Martin. Mr. Martin and was born on March 7, 1925 in Seymour, son of the late Emil F. and Elsie (Goldacker) Martin. He leaves his loving daughter Robin Tucker and her husband Edward of FL., and his son Scott Martin and his wife Kathleen of Seymour and her sons Doughlas and Daniel Zaniewski, as well as several nephews and a niece. Calvin enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served aboard the USS Wasp. He was discharged with the rank of Coxwain Petty Officer 3rd Class. His Service Awards included the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with 8 Battle Stars, European Theatre Medal, Connecticut Veterans Wartime Service Medal, Commendation J.C. Clifton Wasp Executive; a letter from James Forrestal Secretary of the Navy. After the war ended in the Pacific, the Wasp ferried troops from England and Italy. Cal retired from the Farrel Company, Ansonia, after 37 years of service and was a member of the Farrel Old Timers' Club. Calvin was a long time communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church, Seymour, where he served on numerous committees as well as the Vestry and Senior Warden. Mr. Martin and his wife owned their own airplane for several years; he earned his private pilot license in 1967. With his wife, their enjoyment was walking on the beaches of Block Island and Marthas Vineyard. Memorial Gifts may be made to St. Margarets Convent, P.O. Box C., Duxbury, MA 32088. A Memorial Service of Requiem Eucharist with full Military Honors will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11 a.m. DIRECTLY in Trinity Episcopal Church, Seymour.
