Charles “Charley” Steig (nee Schoenhaus), 74, passed away on Friday, January, 19, 2018 at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT. Charley was born December 27, 1943 in Norwalk, CT, to the late Leon Schoenhaus and Katherine Kravitt Schoenhaus Steig. He was long-time resident of Norwalk, a graduate of Norwalk High School, and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work from the University of CT. Charley had a lifelong passion for caring for others and began his career in Social Services as a Social Worker with the State of CT, later becoming an Accountant for the Child Guidance Center of Southern CT. He also taught part-time at J.M. Wright Technical High School for many years. A devoted family man, Charley was predeceased by his wife Shelly Swatland Steig and his two brothers, Alan Schoenhaus of CT and Stephen Schoenhaus of CA. He is survived by his two sons, Jacob Steig of Canton, MI and Matthew Steig of Seymour, CT. He is also survived by his beloved grandsons, twins Grayson and Nathaniel Steig of Canton. MI. Additionally, he will be greatly missed by the rest of his extended family, friends and former co-workers. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held for family and close friends at a later date.
