Life Story for Claire Stanton (Laborde)

OXFORD, CT: Claire Laborde Stanton, age 98, died peacefully at Bethel Health Care Center on December 18, 2009. She was the widow of David H. Stanton; together they made a loving and welcoming home for 49 years in Oxford. Mrs. Stanton was born in Oxford on September 3, 1911 to J. Justin and Claire M. (Bresson) Laborde.
Claire was a graduate of Hawley (Newtown) High School and retired from SNET as manager of the Derby branch cafeteria. She was a communicant of Saint Thomas the Apostle Church where she was past president of the Ladies Guild, a member of Cares & Shares and a religious education teacher. Claire volunteered at the Oxford Elementary School Library. She was also well known for her culinary talent as a superb cook; prior to her career with SNET she catered many private parties. All who knew Claire understood her lifelong devotion to the Boston Red Sox. Claire’s family wishes to thank all who continued to be such a special part of Claire’s long and full life. She cherished everyone.
Claire is survived by her children Jeanne Stanton Branson and husband Bruce of Brookfield and Elaine Stanton Kincade and husband William of Orlando, Florida. In addition, five grandchildren Kristen Kincade of Washington D.C., Stephanie Branson Makowski and her husband Robert of Watertown, Kara Kincade Sterling and her husband George of The Woodlands, Texas, Stacie Branson Armistead and her husband Timothy of Fairfield and James Stanton Branson of Brookfield. She was also “Big Grandma” to her precious great-grandchildren, Ella Claire and Ryan Michael Makowski of Watertown, also many nieces, nephews, cousins, brother in law Robert Stanton of Oxford and dear friends including “daughter” Maria Schine of Southbury. She is predeceased by her children Mary Gayle Stanton and David Stanton Jr. and her siblings Justin Laborde, Jr., Albert Laborde , Jeanne Laborde McGran and Frederick Laborde.
Calling hours will be Monday, (TODAY) from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford. Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery, Sandy Hook.
