SEYMOUR, CONNECTICUT: David F. Knapp, age 100, a lifelong resident of Seymour, quietly passed on May 8, 2019 at his home. He was the beloved son of the late Sherman and Maryanne (Mominee) Knapp, born in Seymour on January 8, 1919. David was the cherished "uncle" to Laura, Nancy, and Amy Marasco and their families, and cousin to Mary Jean (Knapp) Houlahan and family, and Armand Monimee. He was honored and loved by Franklyn and Jane Hull and their family and associates. Mr. Knapp was an accomplished pianist and music/song writer and was a Gold Card member of the American Federation of Musicians, and worked with the early bands of Pat Dorn and many musicians throughout Connecticut, New York, and Florida. David was a member of Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), he composed music performed by the Big Bands of Tommy Dorsey, Charlie Spivak, and Vaughan Monroe. The U.S. Navy Band and Choir chose his original song "Christmas Without You" to perform on its world-wide ABC radio show on December 23, 1956. The music magazine "Cash Box" described the song as one of the prettiest of the new Christmas ballads.

Mr. Knapp holds the distinction of the longest serving assistant of the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home from its opening in 1952 and continuously up to his 100th year as Door Man/ Greeter, Assistant, and Hearse Driver.

David was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran earning the Purple Heart in Benamenil, France, serving from April 1941 through 1945. He was a member of Emil Senger, Post 10 American Legion, Seymour, and a member of his unit's 3rd F.A. Observation Battalion Group.

Calling Hours will be Saturday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. A Funeral Service in celebration of David's life will immediately follow in the funeral home at 11:00 AM with Full Military Honors to follow. Interment will be private.
