Obituary for Dolores Ruby (Madar)

Dolores (Madar, Michaels) Ruby entered peaceful rest in her home on Sunday, November 5, 2023 under the care of Hospice and her loving family. A coal-miner’s daughter, Dolores was born in Swoyersville, PA. She and her siblings grew up in poverty, but she recalled simple pleasures such as picking apples from a nearby orchard and loving to run, earning her the nickname “Peppy”.

Dolores worked as a housekeeper for a wealthy woman and later as a seamstress in a garment factory where she would meet her first husband, Leonard Michaels, who was the sewing machine repairman. They married and moved to Bridgeport, CT, where their two children, David and Gary were born, later moving to Milford, CT, then to the present home in Seymour, CT, where she resided with her grandson in the last years of her life.

Her second husband, Raymond Ruby, introduced her to the world of music and they both played guitars in a swing/country band. They loved country music and attended various jamborees and festivals. Dolores worked for many years at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford and Shelton. They also traveled extensively to Europe, the Caribbean, Canada, Las Vegas, and many places in the USA.

Dolores enjoyed homemaking, decorating her home with plants, figurines, prints and paintings. She was known for her Christmas cookies and famous lemon meringue pie. She loved to garden flowers and vegetables. Dolores was a fashionista, always impeccably groomed and well dressed. She loved 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles, had a sharp mind, and enjoyed trips to the library for mystery books, where she would speak with her favorite librarian and neighbor, Mark.

Dolores was active with the Seymour Senior Center, taking trips to the casinos and playing bingo. She looked forward to eating at Fritz’ Restaurant in Oxford with her husband Ray and with her granddaughter and her two great grandchildren.

Dolores was predeceased by all her siblings, her first husband Leonard and her second husband Ray. She is survived by her sons, David Michaels and his wife Vivian, and Gary Michaels and his companion Ewa; grandchildren, Christopher and Kelly, and the joys of her life, her great-grandchildren Lilly and Colin. Her niece, Rose Semeraro and beloved friend, Lindsey Michaels also survive her.

The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St. Seymour, CT 06483 has been entrusted with Dolores's arrangements and all services will be held at the convenience of the family. For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit us at www.hullfh.com.
