Obituary for Donald Sturges
SEYMOUR: Donald James Sturges, age 69 of Seymour, beloved husband of Dawn (King) Sturges, entered peaceful rest on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 in Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, CT on August 5, 1951, he was a son of the late Edward John and Mildred Katherine (Fitzgerald) Sturges.
Orphaned at a young age, Donald was raised by his aunt, Mary Giza, who was a nurse during WWII on a hospital ship, and himself was an honorable US Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam Era. Donald’s appreciation of the military followed with his knowledge of WWII history. Those who knew him will remember his love of auto racing, especially the Indy 500, bowling, and his collection of 45rpm records from the 50’s.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, survivors include his loving children, Richard Edward Sturges of Seymour, and Laura June Cortez and her husband Carlos of Hamden; siblings, Edward Fox and his wife Marie, Ronald Sturges, and Mary Lincoln and her husband Warren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by his brother, Tom Sturges.
A committal service with full military honors will take place on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 11am. The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home 161 W. Church St., Seymour, CT 06483 has been entrusted with his services. Family and friends can view services remotely following the Zoom link listed below.
