Condolence: It is with great sadness that I and my family learned of the passing of an old friend. Ed was one of best friends anyone could ask for. He always had kind words and sound advice to give. A great many times he improved the quality of life for those around him with his sense of humor and a good story. He was my mentor at work and in life and his positive influence reflects in my everyday life. I am thankful to have had him in my life if only for a short time. Rest in peace my friend, I miss you!

Condolence: Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy. "Uncle Ed" will always be a bright shining star for the Dinkel family, me especially. He was the kindest of gentlemen, sweeter than most and always with a bright and beaming smile. He knew how to roll with the punches and his fondness for enjoying the little things in life was an inspiration. If only all of us could have even just a touch of his wanderlust, his compassion and his zest for life! We could all take a page out of his book, and be the better for it. The Earth is missing one amazing person today and everyday to follow, but at least we can all feel comforted that we have an extra angel by our side. Love to all who love him.

Condolence: I had the pleasure of meeting Ed in 2008 in Indianapolis. We went on a kayak trip down Sugar Creek to do some smallmouth fishing. Ed was not only an excellent fisherman but he was a fine gentleman and a true sportsman. I am lucky to have known him.

Condolence: Our thougths and prayers go out to Sandy & Glenn, David, Frank & Jane, Aunt Doris & Betsy, and Ed's beloved nieces and nephews. Janine and I had the privilege of spending a day and half with Ed just 2 short months ago in Maine. When were together, Ed mentioned to me how all of his many friends were doing, what they had been up to, and so forth. He always was interested in all of our lives, parents & children, and always made sure to keep in contact with many of us. He lived a simple but exciting life, and cherished the great outdoors. He was an expert hunter and fisherman. He had much regard for his family and friends. For those of us who served with him in the US Navy, you know what a fine mentor he was to all of us, and how much he loved his country! I recall the first time I met Ed in 1975 while in training with him to become a Anti-Submarine Warfare Operator/Search and Rescue helicopter aircrewman while serving with him in the US Navy. Ed was like a '"big brother" to me as he mentored and tutored me in successfully finishing training. We both went our separate ways to differing squadrons and WESTPAC deployments, but always kept tabs on each other. Later on, while in San Diego as roommates we had many memorable trips south of the border to Tijuana and Ensenada. Trips to the bullfights, jai alai, the desert, camping in La Bufadora, the famous Long Bar and Hussong's cantina were filled with much joy and excitement. Ed was dubbed as the "King of the Baja Banditos" or El Rey for short, by many of his fellow buddies. Later on after the Navy, we continued our wonderful friendship. He was with me in Indianapolis just after my son Troy was born in 1982. Troy sooned learned what a special man Ed was, and referred to him as his "Uncle Ed". Ed left a lasting impression as he taught Troy how to properly fish and handle firearms. He specially selected for Troy and I our first shotguns and rifles. He took great pride in carefully shipping them to our home and included special notes and mementos with the packages. Through the years Ed provided us with books, photos, and a special painting he selected on one of his trips from back West. Ed also left a lasting impression on many of my friends that I introduced to him during his trips to visit in Indianapolis. Just in the last day I have received many condolences myself from his "new friends in Indianapolis" such as: "Ed was, somehow, a bit bigger than life; a natural legend. I only spent a short time with him, but he left a lasting impression on me." ... "Sorry to hear Tony, always enjoyed his approach to life and humor"..."Ed was a good man. I have fond memories of our kayak trip with him down Sugar Creek. Please commit to more fishing and hunting in honor of Ed." ..."It was wonderful that we got to meet someone that touched your life so much." On one of his last trips back from the West in 2008, while stopping in Indianapolis I witnessed a special moment in Ed's life. During Memorial Day weekend while staying at our home Indianapolis, Ed was anxious to get back to Connecticut to pay his respects to his parents Ralph & Janice on Memorial Day. However, he delayed his return to the East Coast as I was able to coax him in attending the Indianapolis 500. Prior to the start of the race during the Invocation, Rifle Volley and Taps the huge Amerian Flag was unfurled by members of the Armed Forces. During the playing of the Taps, I glanced over at Ed and he had tears streaming down his cheeks. This gesture of his emotion portrayed what a great man Ed Hull was to all of us. In fact, I trust many of us are now shedding a tear for such a sudden loss to our fallen brother,brother-in-law, nephew, cousin, uncle and great friend. May we all enjoy our day with Ed in paradise when we will meet him again. May he rest in peace! AMEN.

Condolence: To Frank, Jane, Sandy, Dave and the entire Hull Family. My most sincere condolences to all of you. I had the pleasure of knowing Ed and sharing so many wonderful life experiences with him for 40 years. When he moved to Maine, Ed was always a topic of conversation between those of us who knew him for so long. There were always interesting " Ed " stories to tell. We have to admit and give him his just dew. He lived life his way and on his own schedule. Having known all of you for so many years as well as spending many days years ago with your Mom & Dad, I am deeply saddened by Ed's sudden and tragic ending. I actually feel like I lost a member of my own family, like a big brother. It was thru Ed that I met Gene and for that I was always grateful to him. Like all of you, I didn't get to say goodbye and I'm kicking myself for not picking up the phone and keeping in touch more often. But I'll take solace in the fact that he was where he wanted to be when the end came. Living in the North Woods of Maine and driving his old red Ford pick-up and just maybe thinking about that next trip out west, the next hunting expedition in New Hampshire or opening season for trout in the Spring. I'll miss him, a lot. Joe Sheehy
