Obituary for Eugene Joseph Bernal

Eugene Joseph   Bernal
Mr. Eugene Joseph Bernal, age 85, beloved husband of 63 happy years to Joyce (Forsyth) Bernal of Oxford, entered peaceful rest on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 at Griffin Hospital, Derby.

He was the son of the late Alexander and Mary (Stanislawczyk) Bernal and was born on October 29, 1928 in Derby. He grew up in Derby and played football for Derby High School and was known as “Glue Fingered Bernal.” He served with the U.S Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Howard W. Gilmore (A.S. 16) He was a field service engineer for U. S Electrical Motors for 39 years. Mr. Bernal enjoyed trips to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods. He also enjoyed watching the NY Giants and UConn Boys & Girls Basketball and attended many of the WNBA Connecticut Sun girl’s team home games. He was an avid outdoorsman including hunting and fishing. His family always came first and he will always be remembered.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Bernal leaves his children, Eugene J. (Debbie) Bernal, Jr. of Norwich, VT and their children, Elizabeth and Holly, Bonnie (Laurence) Kenny of Rindge, NH and their children, Larry, Kelley, and Sydney and Ronald (Bonnie) Bernal of Madison and their children, Chad, Andrew and Lexi, his brother, Walter (Helen) Sadlon of Arizona and sister, Cecelia (John) Swetz of Beacon Falls, sister in law, Arlene Davies of Seymour and several nieces, nephews and cousins. His brothers, Joseph, Michael and John Sadlon and sisters, Frances Moran and Helen Sadlon and nephew, Charles Sadlon and his loving god daughter, Judy Swetz Desroches predeceased him.
