Obituary

OXFORD, CT: Gertrude M. Rennison, age 97 passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife for 32 years of the late Edward A. Rennison who died in 1979.

She was also a loving mother to her two children, and a grandmother who adored her two grandchildren, Zachary and Shea Rennison.

Gertrude was born March 20, 1923 in Greenvale, NY, the daughter of the late John and Julia (Padzgorski) Prokop. She was predeceased by her brothers, John and Joseph Carl, and sister, Sophie.

Gertrude attended school in Roslyn, NY; after graduation she worked at Grumman Aircraft supporting World War II efforts. Eventually she ventured off to upstate New York where she worked and met the love of her life Edward Rennison. They married in 1947 and were lifelong residents of Seymour raising two children, David Rennison and Margaret Basilicato (husband Richard).

Gertrude enjoyed doting over her family and in her spare time could be found sewing and baking, or traveling up north to their vacation home in Northern New Hampshire.

In her final days, Gertrude showed just how strong she truly was; she gained her wings and is finally reunited with her beloved husband and all those who had gone before her.

I have known Mrs. Rennison, as we always called her, since I was 2 years old. My parents bought our home next to them on a dirt road of only 3 houses. They were best neighbors and friends always. My Mom and Mrs. Rennison were always cooking and baking. Bee (Marge) and I would be sent back and forth to get a cup of sugar or an egg. Both my Mom and Mrs. Rennison loved to sew. They would sew outfits for Bee and I. Then they always surprised us with outfits for our dolls at Christmas. Through the years, we all went on picnics, picked apple and peaches and went to the old swimming pool at Legion Pool. As the years went by, my husband, children and grandchildren became great friends with Mrs. Rennison. We would get together over the years for such things as the Annual Christmas Smashing of the Ginger Bread house by the grandchildren. Mrs. Rennison would be there cheering them on. God gave Mrs. Rennison her Angel Wings. She was reunited with her loving husband, Edward, and my Mom and Dad, Lill and Bill Petzold and all her friends and relatives. She would always say when my Mom, Dad and brother passed, "Memories are Forever". Our sympathy, love and prayers to Bee, Rich, David, Zachary and Shea. Love Jeanne, Tom and family.
