Life Story for Hiram D. Carrington, Jr.

Hiram D.  Carrington, Jr.
BETHANY: Mr. Hiram D. Carrington, Jr., age 79, of Bethany, beloved husband of 56 years to Joan (Greywacz) Carrington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Mr. Carrington was born on January 12, 1930 in New Haven to the late Hiram D. Carrington, Sr. and the late Anna (Voland) Carrington. He was a lifelong resident of Bethany. He attended school in Bethany and graduated from Seymour High School where he played football and soccer. He was a third generation farmer, who co-owned and operated Cherry Tree Farm in Bethany with his late brother, Gordon Carrington, Sr. He was a member of the Belted Galloway Society and the Farm Bureau. He was a life member of the Bethany Historical Society. He was also a former member of the West Point Parents Club. He was proud of his family and known for his smile, wit and sense of humor. He was also an avid genealogist. In addition to his devoted wife, he leaves eight children, Col. Ret. William A. Carrington (Paula) of Waipahu, Hawaii, James E. Carrington (Angela) of Wilmington, DE, Robert A. Carrington (Debra) of Northfield, CT, Lt. Col. Ret. John C. Carrington (Christina) of Gales Ferry, CT, Joan C. Gaffney (Richard) of Southbury, CT, Ruth C. Fleck (Rodney) of Morristown, NJ, Hiram D. Carrington, III (Russell Jacques) of Newport Beach, CA and Mary C. Hewes (Bryan) of West Chester, PA, sixteen grandchildren, Brett Carrington, Paul, Amy and Lisa Carrington, Stephan, Alex and Mark Carrington, Bethany and Daniel Carrington, Megan, Kelly and Scott Gaffney, Lindsey and Erin Fleck, Carly and Michael Hewes. He is also survived by a brother, Ralph W. Carrington of Oregon and a daughter in law, Joan Vann of Coconut Grove, FL and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, David H. Carrington and two brothers, Franklyn Carrington and Gordon Carrington, Sr. A Liturgy of the Word will be held on Friday, May 8 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 81 Center Road, Woodbridge. Interment to follow in Carrington Cemetery, Bethany. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc., P.O.
