Obituary for James Anthony Slie

SEYMOUR, CT: James Anthony “Jim” Slie, age 70 of Seymour, has entered into peaceful rest on April 10, 2024. He was the beloved husband of 42 years to Marcie (Culmo) Slie. Jim was born December 20, 1953 in Derby, Connecticut. He was the son of the late William, Sr., and Anne (Yustin) Slie. He retired last June from Sikorsky Aircraft, after working 38 years in Shipping and Receiving in both the Shelton and Stratford plants. He was a Communicant of St. Nicholas Parish – Church of the Good Shepherd. His many interests included gardening, ice fishing, baking, playing in men’s softball leagues, and collecting sports cards. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the former Hartford Whalers for which he and his brothers had season passes. Jim was an All State tri-athlete at Seymour High School (Class of 1971), playing football, baseball, and basketball. Jim holds a state record at SHS for the most single-game touchdown receptions, scoring 5 touchdowns in one game, on October 10, 1970. His teammates knew him as “Foxy” which originated from the expression of being as “sly as a fox.” After high school, Jim loved to take care of his chickens and he delivered eggs from Slie’s Egg Farm. He loved taking trips to Rhode Island and Boston. Jim raised his three daughters with love and enjoyed every second spent with them. Jim loved coaching their Little League games, attending their dance recitals, and watching them compete in high school and college sports. Jim adored his six cherished grandchildren and loved taking them to carnivals, fairs, baseball games, Disney, and on many other trips.

In addition to his beloved wife Marcie, James leaves his loving family including his daughters, Stefanie Newman and her husband, Glenn, of Seymour, Shelby Lorusso and her husband, Anthony, of Southington, and Haley Addis and her husband, Jordan, of Seymour; his brothers, William J. Slie, Jr. of Seymour, and Robert Slie and his wife Rosemary of Oxford; his grandchildren, Lucy, Grace, Reese, Ezra, Cade, and Leo; his nieces and nephews, Tina Slie and Wendy Carrafiello, both of Seymour, also Krystle Magana, Christopher Culmo, Reyna Culmo, Christopher Conte, Janice Conte, Samantha Applebee, Robert Culmo Jr., Becca Day, and Kellen McGraw.
