Obituary for Jean Margaret Hanna (Monroe)

WOODBRIDGE, CT: Jean M. (Monroe) Hanna, age 92 of Woodbridge, previously of Chatham, MA, and Jupiter, FL, beloved wife of 52 years to the late Harry S. Hanna, Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, December 20, 2021 in Woodbridge. Born in Waterbury, CT, on April 14, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Margaret (Condit) Monroe.

As a past Clerk and Tax Collector for the Town of Woodbridge from the late 1970’s to the early 1980’s, Jean was very active in her community. She would volunteer her time at Easter Seals, the Junior League, New Haven Area Rehabilitation Center, as well as many others, and was most proud of holding the title of the Woodbridge CT Police Commissioner. Jean had a strong faith and was a member of the First Congregational Church of both Woodbridge and Chatham. Those who knew her will remember Jean for her love of travel, as well as her deep appreciation for the many wonderful friends she had.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Julie Horan and her husband Gregory, and Betsy Romanelli and her husband James, 4 cherished granddaughters, as well as 7 adored great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Jean was predeceased by her son, John Edward Hanna.

The family would like to give a special “Thanks” to the caring and compassionate staff of the Linden in Woodbridge.

All services will be private at the convenience of the family and her arrangements have been entrusted to the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St. Seymour, CT 06483. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean can be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
