Obituary for Jerome Johnson

BETHANY: Jerome Johnson, age 87 of Bethany and previously of Oxford, beloved husband of 64 years to the late Marjorie (Benedict) Johnson, entered peaceful rest on Monday, June 13, 2022 in Griffin Hospital. Born in New Haven on February 23, 1935, he was a son of the late Harry and Florence (Lounsbury) Johnson.

Jerry was a simple man who loved spending time with family and was a Go-Kart and Stock Car racer in his early years. A veteran of the US Army Reserve, he was also the owner of J. Johnson Sheet Metal before retiring and moving to upstate NY. Jerome was a jack of all trades who designed and built his own home after retirement. Upon moving to NY, he became a driver and friend to the Amish Community and would love telling stories of participating in many Amish barn raisings.

Survivors include his loving children, Jeryle Russell and her husband Merritt, Jr. of NY, Deborah Russell of Naugatuck, Alan Johnson of FL, Ronald Johnson of Waterbury, and Sharon Russell and her husband Eric of Bethany; his brother, James Johnson and his wife Judy of Bethany, as well as 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Jerome was predeceased by his siblings, Richard and Harry Johnson, Jr., and Caroline Fajnor.

All services will be held at the convenience of the family and the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 161 W. Church St., Seymour, CT, 06483 has been entrusted with his arrangements. Mr. Johnson’s family would also like to give a big “Thank You’” to the staff at Griffin Hospital, especially Dr. Spivak and Dr. Salzano for their care and support during his time there. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerome’s memory can be made to The Bethany Ambulance Corps., 765 Amity Road, Bethany, CT 06524.
