Obituary for Joan M. Brooks (Bates)

Joan M. Brooks, 84 of Seymour, entered into peaceful rest on July 15, 2022. She was the beloved wife of 57 years to her high school sweetheart, the late Borden Brooks. Mrs. Brooks was born May 12, 1938, in Derby, daughter of the late Kenneth and Martha (Krause) Bates. She was a graduate of Seymour High School Class of 1956. Joan was a retired Office Coordinator from the Lower Naugatuck Valley Council on Drug Abuse, and she also had previously worked in the sales office at the former Montgomery Ward in Ansonia. Joan was a life-long member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Oxford, where she was a member of the choir, lector, council member, and served on various other committees. Joan was an avid reader and enjoyed travel, especially to her favorite Cape Cod. Her biggest joy, however, was spending time with her family.

Joan leaves behind her loving family, including sons David Brooks and wife Gail, of Thompson, and Donald Brooks of Seymour; a sister Sharon Carey of Maryville, TN; her grandchildren, Jonathan and Benjamin Brooks, Christine (Brooks) Daoust, Amy, Stefanie, and Lindsey LaFrance and Alexis LaRowe; and her great grandchildren Lucas, Makenna, and Olivia Daoust. She was predeceased by her daughter, Cathy LaFrance Warnquist

A Memorial Service in celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Saturday at 10 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church (DIRECTLY), 25 Great Hill Road, Oxford. Interment will be at Trinity Cemetery, Seymour, following the service. Memorial gifts may be sent the Immanuel Lutheran Church Endowment Fund. Arrangements are entrusted to the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. Please share a memory at www.hullfh.com.
