Obituary for Larry Dalby

BEACON FALLS: John Lawrence “Larry” Dalby, age 84 of Beacon Falls, beloved husband of Lorraine (Leonard) Dalby, died on Monday, May 2, 2022 in his home surrounded by family after a long illness. Born in Bridgeport on April 27, 1938, he was the son of the late Eric and Loretta (McGough) Dalby.

Larry was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, as well as a good friend to many. He gave his all to everything he did and always followed through on promises made. Larry was a family man and was always happiest when together with his loved ones, especially during Christmas Eve (his favorite holiday). His children and grandchildren loved hearing “Grandpa’s Stories” when gathered around the dinner table.

After graduating from Stratford High School in 1956, Larry joined the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in1962. Following his service, Larry started his career as a draftsman/designer in mechanical engineering and retired from Electric Boat in 1998.

Larry pursued many interests throughout his life which included painting, American history, and following the NY Giants. But most of all, he enjoyed being a member of the Waterbury Chorale, where he formed many lasting friendships throughout the twenty years he sang with them.


In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, Lorraine, survivors include his loving daughters, Nora Tragianese, and Lisa Mathews and her husband Jim; 2 cherished granddaughters, Jess Matthews and Keelin Matthews, as well as his adored great grandson, Bentley Bilotti. Larry was predeceased by his son-in-law, Mark Tragianese.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 4pm – 7pm in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour, CT 06483. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
