John S. Kulas, Jr., 62 of Seymour, beloved husband of Jewell (Nefores) Kulas, entered into peaceful rest on May 21, 2021. John was born on August 28, 1958 and was a lifelong resident of Seymour. John is survived by his mother Veronica Kulas, of Seymour; his wife Jewell Kulas of 15 years of Seymour; his sons, John Kulas and his wife Michelle of Northport, FL, and Mark Kulas and his wife Brittany of Seymour; his daughters, Rachel Cavallaro and her husband Nick in Colorado, and Nicolle Bellina and her husband Oscar of Vera, Spain; two brothers, James Kulas and Stanley Kulas and his wife Kathleen all of Seymour; his sisters, Karen Talamelli Cusick of Woodbridge, and Laura Kulas and her husband Kevin Carrier of East Hampton; 9 grandchildren, Justin, Rebecca, Avery, Giada, Nova, Roxxy, Leonardo, Margarita, and Francesco; and also four nephews. His father John S. Kulas, Sr., and his brothers-in-law, Bill Talamelli and Stanley Cusick predeceased him.

Six weeks ago, John and I received the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. His attitude was one of strength and conviction. He gave his loved ones the strength to realize how blessed he was to have this time with loved ones. (Jewell)

John has worked in the rock crushing industry for over thirty years. While he enjoyed this, his real passion was welding.

He and his wife Jewell enjoyed everything together, traveling out of state for tournament trap shooting events, hunting, fishing and cooking.

Family, Faith, Friends, Flag, Firearms were the Motto of his life. John attended Seymour High School and was involved for over twenty years with baseball and then softball. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast. Hunting and fishing were second nature to him. When John would tell you of one of his adventures, he had you captivated from the start. The excitement in his voice and his expressions made you feel like you were on the trip with him.

From a young age, John enjoyed trapshooting. Earlier in life he enjoyed it as a hobby, the past 5 years his hobby took him to competitive shooting. His joy and love of the sport brought him many trophies, the special friendships he made with club members meant just as much to him as his awards. They definitely became one of the family members.

Although John believed in working hard and playing big, his greatest joy of all was his 4 children and 9 grandchildren. With his enthusiastic talent of speaking, he would share daily the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Whether speaking with co workers, his friends at the shooting club or even the grocery store clerk. To say he is a proud parent is an understatement.

John had such passion for life and he lived it to the fullest.

Donations may be made to either the Seymour Fish and Game, or The Hamden Fish and Game in honor of John.
