Obituary for John J. Lucas

OXFORD: John J. Lucas, age 65 of Oxford, entered peaceful rest on Sunday, October 22, 2023 in his home. Born in Bridgeport on August 18, 1958, he was the son of the late Edward and Verne (Herrick) Lucas.

A lifelong resident of Oxford, John was a retired electronic technician, working for AT&T for many years. He had a passion for anything involving the outdoors and could be found hiking, camping, boating and fishing. John was great with his hands and could fix anything; helping out anyone in need. He also loved music and made many mix CD’s for his friends and family.

Survivors include his loving daughters, Jennifer Culver and her husband Richard, and JoAnna Lucas; 5 cherished grandchildren, Hannah, Owen and Aurelia Culver, Auriana Lucas and Dominic Holloway; his previous wife, Diane Lucas; sister, Marion VanNess and her husband Peter; nephew, Ronald Tichy and his wife Kristin; great niece, Scarlett Tichy; John's companion Elizabeth Flanagan and their dog, Rocky; uncle Harold Herrick; best friend and cousin George Gorkowski Jr., his wife Julie, son Matthew, and daughter Emily; cousins John Hanudel, Anna Hanudel, Paul Hanudel, his wife Cheryl, and son Sean Hanudel, Mary Larson, her husband Rune, and sons Isak and Zakarias from Sweden; cousins Wendy Sellers Livoti and Tracy Sellers; cousins Gary Bertram, Marie Bristol, Steven Bertram, Stuart Bertram, Debbie Mengert, Pam daRosa, Robert Mengert, Jack Bova, Annemarie Fuccillo, Jaclyn Volpe, and Anthony Bova.

Relatives and friends can greet the family on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 5pm to 7pm in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St. Seymour, CT 06483. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 2pm DIRECTLY in the Riverside Community Church, 238 Freeman Rd. Oxford, CT 06478. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Oxford. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial donations in John's memory can do so to the "Oxford Land Trust", 11 Tram Dr. Oxford, CT 06478.
