Life Story for John Spivak

THOUSAND OAKS, CA: John C. Spivak, age 91, formerly of Seymour before moving to sunny Thousand Oaks, CA to reside with his daughter and son in law. He is the beloved husband of the late Margaret Bernice Spivak passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, November 29, 2009. Mr. Spivak was born on June 2, 1918 in Ansonia to the late Thomas and Theresa (Zelem) Spivak. He was a machine operator at Kerite Company in Seymour for over 30 years before his retirement in 1983. John was an artist. After retirement he took Art History courses at Yale University. He also carved canes and sold them at many Art & Crafts Fairs in Seymour. He was known as The Cane Maker. Many people purchased his canes and he was always so ready to help someone.
Mr. Spivak is survived by his devoted daughter, Judy and John Lakkis of Thousand Oaks, CA and daughters, Marsha Fogarty of Southbury, and Peggy Buck. Four sisters, Anne Deren of Seymour, Julia Martin of Oxford, Annette DeMauro of Prospect and Carol Vansak of Oxford and one very special brother, Michael Spivak of Seymour. Three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His domestic partner of 11 years, Ms. Henrietta House of Seymour predeceased him in January 2008. Family and Friends may call on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon with a Funeral Service to follow at on 12 noon in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. Interment in Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour.
