Obituary for Joseph Andrew "UJ" Kriz

Joseph Andrew "UJ"  Kriz
BETHANY, CT: Joseph A. "UJ" Kriz, age 93 of Bethany, beloved husband of Barbara (Chambers) Kriz entered into peaceful rest September 1, 2010 at his home with his devoted family by his side. Mr. Kriz was born April 12, 1917, son of the late Joseph and Anne (Swatt) Kriz. Joseph was a retired Farrier and co-owner of Kriz Farm. He was a US Army veteran of WW II serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a member of Post 2448 VFW, Bethany. Mr. Kriz was a member of the Professional Farrier's Association and was a member of the Ferrier's Hall of Fame. Joseph was instrumental in teaching many people the farrier profession. UJ had a genuine love of horses and horse shoeing which he did all over the world, including in Japan. He competed in showing driving and draft horses, and has cared for the famous Budweiser Clydesdale Team. He was a resident of Seymour before moving to Bethany in 1960.

In addition to his wife, Joseph leaves his loving family including his son, Joe Kriz and his wife Nancy of Woodbridge, two grandsons, J. Michael Kriz of New Haven, and David Kriz of Woodbridge, and several nieces and nephews. His brothers, Frederick and John, and sisters, Evelyn Miles, Gertrude Benelit, and Millie Kiser predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, 526 Amity Road, Bethany. Interment with full Military Honors will be in First Church Burial Ground, Bethany. Family and friends may call at the Ralph E.
