Mrs. June Ruth (Larson) Behuniak, age 92, of lifelong resident of Oxford, beloved wife of the late Phillip Behuniak, entered peaceful rest on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Waterbury Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 9, 1922 in Oxford and was the daughter of the late Oscar and Ruth (Brunberg) Larson. She owned a large array of wonderful hats, which she wore to every occasion. She was always the one to say “Take everything in moderation and smile so people will be wondering why.” Her calmness and love of family was always there.
Mrs. Behuniak raised 7 children and had her own trophy and engraving business through the Seymour Sports Shop in the 1960’s. In the 1980’s she took up acrylic painting and won many awards. In the year 2000, she was the tenant’s representative for the six grants successfully obtained for the Crestview Ridge Elderly Housing. In addition to being the Tenants Sergeant of Arms, she was a member of the Elderly Commission. Mrs. Behuniak was a member of the Oxford Congregational Church and the Senior Center of Oxford, where she was on the building committee for planning and promoting the Center in 2008. She was the founding member and president of the Red Hats, Oxford Chapter. In her early years, she was an avid hunter and fisherwoman. She was an honorary member of the Seymour Fish and Game Club. She attended many ballet boxes for the elections in Oxford.
She is survived by her devoted children, Virginia Barnes (Roger) of Westboro, MA, Joan Behuniak Brooks Yelding of Southbury, James Behuniak (Nancy) of Bethlehem, Sandra Tarbox (Allan) of New Market, NH and Helene Larson of Incline Village, NV and her loving companion of 23 years, Arthur Miller of Oxford.
