Obituary for Marion P. Costigan (Dechio)

June 12, 1937 - October 22, 2019

Marion P. (Dechio) Costigan, 82 years old, beloved wife for 60 years of the late Robert M. Costigan, Sr., entered peacefully into rest on October 22, 2019 at her home with the family whom loved her by her side. Marion was a long time resident of Seymour, formerly of Ansonia. She graduated from Ansonia High School at the age of 15 years old and entered the University of Bridgeport Nursing program at the age of 16. Some of her greatest accomplishments were playing semi-professional softball for Avco Lycoming against Hall of Famers Joan Joyce and Big Bertha, playing shortstop and hitting a 98 mile an hour fast pitch. Later in life she coached the town of Seymour's high school aged girls softball league and led them from last place to the league championship. She was the sole proprietor of The Glass Lady, LLC, an antique business that she ran for over 30 years. She loved spending her weekends at the local flea markets searching for treasures, buying and selling antiques from jewelry to depression glass. Marion also drove school bus for Trevelin Bus Company and Dufour Bus Company for a total of 26 years combined. Besides antiquing, in her spare time she loved traveling, especially to the Bahamas and Atlantic City, watching NASCAR with her husband Bob, and playing the nickel and penny slots at Mohegan Sun.

Marion leaves her children, Kimberlee Simko and her husband Robert of Naugatuck, Kelly Shamansky of Seymour, and Robert Costigan, Jr. and his wife Robbi of Oxford; her grandchildren, Zachary and Alexis Simko, Nicholas, John Michael, Marissa and Abigail Shamansky, and Robert M. Costigan, III, as well as a great grandson Damian Shamansky, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Marion’s family would like to thank the staff from All About You Home Health Care Service for their many months of service and love they gave to Her, and Vitas Hospice for the care they provided her in her final days.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Marion’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 29th, 2019, at St. Nicholas Parish-Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour at 11:00 AM. A time of visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment at Mountain Meadows Cemetery will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Seymour Police Departments K-9 unit, 11 Franklin St., Seymour. Arrangements are entrusted to the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour.
