James K. Morgan

To Stephanie, Judy, Tom and Ally: I wish I could be there to show my love and support for you. I have so many memories of Morgan, and they all make me laugh. I can't count the number of times he would say to me that he must be a teacher's nightmare. It was hard to convince him that he was anything but. We always agreed that he hated school work, didn't hate school. And that is because he always viewed work as something that had to show him a purpose. And books and papers didn't show him a purpose. But using his mind to solve practical problems. Working to complete a purposeful task. Morgan was who you wanted to call. We had a discussion one day in class about how the Ag students who were not college bound were viewed by the teachers at Nonnewaug. I always felt that people like Morgan (who was in the class) should ask these folks who they would call to free them from the car wreck. The last time I saw Morgan, he was driving for Cole Bros. Lumber in Woodbury. And he seemed happy. He was making his own money and his own way in life. That was years ago. I am glad he found happiness with Stephanie, and that things seem to be going well. Even without seeing him for years, I really miss him. He and I shared a magic moment driving to the New York Airports in a blizzard with a broken wiper. A very hairy and on reflection, a very funny moment. I kept yelling at the wipers and the snow and the time...and Morgan finally said, "Where did you get that temper?" I had to laugh. Same family genes you have, buddy. My prayers are with you all. I wish I could join you. Much love and sadness...Jim Morgan
