Obituary for Muriel A. DeRienzo (Slie)

Muriel A. DeRienzo, age 91 of Seymour, she entered into peaceful rest at her home on March 23, 2021; she was the beloved wife of the late Victor DeRienzo. Mrs. DeRienzo was born November 4, 1929 in Derby, daughter of the late Levi and Margaret (Ryan) Slie. She attended Assumption School in Ansonia, and later graduated from Seymour High School Class of 1948. Muriel was a communicant of St. Nicholas Parish-Church of the Good Shepherd. She was retired from Uniroyal, Inc. in the Footwear Division as a Group Leader for 28 years, having retired as a result of the plant closing in 1979. Muriel continued to work until 1994 when she finally retired from the New England Teamsters Union. Upon retirement she enjoyed traveling the United States with her husband Victor. Muriel had a strong love for her families; she enjoyed attending family get-togethers for birthdays, holidays and other celebrations. Muriel was also fond of shopping trips. In her early years, she was known to frequent the many dress shops throughout the Valley.
In addition to her husband and parents, Muriel was predeceased by her brother William J. Slie and also his wife Ann, her sister Helen Locke Maile and her husband Alton.
Muriel leaves behind her loving family including, her nephew, William J. Slie, Jr., Robert Slie and his wife Rosemary, and James Slie and his wife Marcie; a niece, Ellen Maile Cronin and her husband John; her step-children, Linda Zibluk and her husband James, Barbara DeRienzo, Dr., Thomas DeRienzo and his wife Kathy, and Mark DeRienzo and his wife Christine; also 7 grand nephews and nieces, 9 great grand nephews and nieces, 8 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-great grandchildren.
A mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Muriel’s life will be Friday March 26 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Parish-Church of the Good Shepherd (DIRECTLY), 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Interment will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Gifts may be sent to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405. Muriel’s family wishes to express their thanks to the many caregivers who assisted her during the past year; Samantha, Rose, Cindi, Nicola, Stephanie, Nora, Patricia, and Noveia; additionally, her family extends their thanks to Hospice Home Care Staff for their care and support over the past few months.
