Life Story for Roberta M. King (Matthies)

Roberta M.  King (Matthies)
Seymour, CT: Mrs. Roberta M. King, 83, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 11 at the Shady Knoll Health Center. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. King, Sr. She was born on December 10, 1925 in Waterbury to the late Bernard and Ethel Clark Matthies. She was the third born and only girl of 5 children. Roberta was a dedicated homemaker as well as being an active member in the community. She worked for a short while with the FBI and also worked for Seymour Manufacturing. She was a First Aid Instructor where she met her husband. She served on the Board of Selectmen, Board of Police Commissioners, a Board member of the Seymour Historical Society, and the Seymour Republican Party. Roberta was an EMT with the Seymour Volunteer Ambulance Co. She volunteered as an assistant leader for the Girl Scouts and a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts of America, She coordinated many blood drives with the American Red Cross. She was a member of the Seymour Congregational Church since 1941 and in the past taught Sunday school and was a past Choir Member. Roberta will always be remembered for her compassionate caring and her sincere outreach to help others. Roberta is survived by her devoted family, her son, William J. King, Jr. and her daughter, Mary R. King and a step-daughter, Gladys Aldred all of Seymour. She is also survived by brothers, Richard Matthies, Orange and Franklin Matthies of Killingworth, two step -grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and four step great-great-grandchildren and several nieces nephews and cousins. Her two brothers, George Matthies and William Matthies and a step-great grandchild predeceased her. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Seymour Congregational Church, 15 Broad Street, Seymour. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
