Obituary for Russell F. Mitchell Sr.

Russell F. Mitchell, Sr., age 94 of Seymour, he entered into peaceful rest on April 6, 2020 at Bishop Wicke Health Care, Shelton; he was the beloved husband of the late Olga (Michaliska) Mitchell. Russell was born July 31, 1925 in Beacon Falls, son of the late Charles and Mary Mitchell. He was a WW II U.S. Navy Veteran. Mr. Mitchell was retired from UTC Sikorsky Aircraft after 13 years, and also from Uniroyal Rubber Division, Naugatuck after 20 years. Russell loved the outdoors especially hiking at High Rock Park, the beaches of Rhode Island especially Misquamicut, he also enjoyed boating. He was an avid reader with a countless amount of books he read over the years. He was a sports team enthusiast and he enjoyed watching UCONN basketball. He attended all of his grandchildren’s sporting games and school events. Russell will be remembered as a very generous man to his family and community. He was the type of guy that would give you the shirt off of his back, but what he treasured mostly was for the love he had for his family, reminiscing about his days growing up, his beloved wife Olga, the stories of WW2, and all the people he met while he was hiking.

Mr. Mitchell leaves his loving family including his sons, Richard Mitchell (Cheryl) of Seymour, and Russell Mitchell, Jr. (Jean) of Spartanburg, S.C.; his grandchildren, Robert Mitchell (Roberta) in CO, James Mitchell (Nanda) in S.C., and Kelly Lampart (Patrick) of Seymour, and great grandchildren, Lauren, Nathan, Bryson, and Breanna Mitchell. His brothers, Charles, Donald, Edward, Leonard, George, and Robert, and sisters, Doris Stocker and Barbara Eaton predeceased him.

There are no services scheduled at this time. Interment will be at Mountain Meadows Cemetery. The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial gifts may be made to National Federation of the Blind of CT, 111 Sheldon Road, Unit 420
