Obituary for Stanley J. "Stan" Pokora Sr.
NAUGATUCK, CT: Stanley “Stan” Pokora, Sr. a former Seymour resident, a devoted husband and Family man passed away peacefully at his son’s home in Naugatuck on the morning of April 22, 2020 with his wife Betty at his side. Stan had been struggling with a progressive illness for some time and God finally called him to eternal rest.
Stan was born in Seymour ,CT son of late William and Mary (Szostek) Pokora. He was also predeceased by his brother Robert Pokora (wife Susan) of Snellville, GA. He is survived by two sisters Wanda Jones (husband Buddy) of Beacon Falls and Harriet Bak (husband AL) of Seymour .
He worked at the First National Supermarket in Seymour for 16 years and later he was employed for 25 years at the Griffin Hospital, Derby as Boiler Room/ Maintenance technician for before retiring
Besides Elizabeth J Pokora (Betty Lakatta), his wife of more than 63 years, he leaves his two sons Stanley Pokora Jr of Naugatuck and Kenneth R Pokora Sr of Wilton ; two daughters, Jane Johnson (husband Larry ) of Seymour and Linda Moraniec (husband Lou) of Prospect.
He is also survived by his many grandchildren, Melissa Pokora, Amy Pokora, Courtney Dorais (husband John Paul), Mary Pokora, Stephanie Pokora, Stacy Pokora, Kenny Pokora, Kevin Johnson (wife Gaelin), Kyle Johnson (wife Katie), Jamie Moraniec, Amanda Moraniec, and two great grand children Kimberly and Margaret Johnson. All of his Nieces and nephews were also very special to him.
There were many highlights to Stan’s life that were very special to him and his Family. Just to name of few he was an Air Traffic Controller in the US Airforce 1952 -1956 where is served in Korea. He was also active in the Seymour Youth Sports community. He coached several years in the Seymour little league where he led the Cubs to their first Championship. He also coached the Hawks in the Seymour Biddy Basketball recreation league wining several championships. Stan also helped out the Pop Warner Football coaches by filming games.
More than coaching he just like to watch his sons, daughters and grandchildren play competitive sports and couldn’t wait to see their games; So much so, he built a basketball court and a batting cage in his back yard to help make his kids and grandkids be the best they could be.
He was there to support all of us in everything we did, whether it be school or at life…he just wanted his family to be successful and happy.
In addition to spending time with his family, he loved playing golf with his wife, his brother Bob and brother in law Buddy and had moved to Ocala, Fla. for several years enjoying his passion.
He was well liked by his friends and those that he had the opportunity to cross paths with during his lifetime. We will all miss him, but we know he’s in a better place now. There are no services at this time. His arrangements have been entrusted to the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour.
