Life Story for Thomas E. Behuniak

Thomas E.  Behuniak
SEYMOUR, CT: Attorney Thomas E. Behuniak Lt. Col. Retired, age 65 of Seymour entered into peaceful rest on April 8, 2009 at the Griffin Hospital, Derby; he was the beloved husband of Susan (Turnipseed) Behuniak. Mr. Behuniak was born October 28, 1943 in Derby, loving son of Helen (Konikowski) Behuniak of Seymour, and the late Theodore “Ted” Behuniak. Thomas was a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army and had served with the Judge Advocate General Corps. Thomas served world-wide including tours with the Pentagon Staff, 7th Army, 7th Corps, 6th Army, US Forces Command, and the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg. Mr. Behuniak was a distinguished military graduate from, and commanded the Cadet Corps at Syracuse University where he then received a commission into the Regular Army. Tom received Master of Law Degrees in International Law and Government; he graduated from the Army’s Command and General Staff College. He received the Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service Medals and the Humanitarian Service Medal. Mr. Behuniak later received his Teaching Certificate from the University of New Haven, and also retired from a ten year teaching career in Seymour Schools, and Emmett O’Brien Technical High School, Ansonia. He served on the Town of Seymour’s Economic Development Commission, Board of Finance, Charter Revision Commission, Land Conservation Trust, Historical Society, and Republican Town Committee. He was a member of the Emil Senger Post 10 American Legion, and the Russian American Club. Tom enjoyed boating and golf, and was on the All State Football Team while in high school. In addition to his wife and mother, Tom leaves several cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Theodore and Leonard Behuniak. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. from the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment with full Military Honors will be in St. Augustine Cemetery. Family and friends may call the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be sent to a charity of one’s choice.
