Life Story for Walter L. Shifflett

Mr. Walter L. Shifflett, age 81, of Oxford, beloved husband of the late Emma Louise (Hilton) Shifflett, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2010 in Shady Knoll Health Center, Seymour. Mr. Shifflett was born on December 9, 1928 in Crozet, Virginia to the late Lucian and Virginia Shifflett. He was a U.S. Army veteran and and an honorary member of the Riverside Fire Co., Inc. in Oxford, where he served as past Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief. Mr. Shifflett was a road foreman for Oxford Public Works for over 20 years before his retirement in 1992. Mr. Shifflett is survived by his devoted daughter, Karen Hotchkiss and her husband Keith, Sr. in Oxford and his grandson, Keith Hotchkiss, Jr. of Oxford and two brothers, Fred and Richard Shifflett and two sisters, Geraldine Blevins and Frances Beard all of Virginia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his extended RV Family at Kelley’s RV Park in Callahan, FL and the Pioneer Park in Zolfo Springs, FL. The family would like to thank all of the staff of Shady Knoll for the wonderful care and support that was given to their father. Family and Friends may call on Wednesday, February 24 from 5 to 7:00 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. Services and Interment will be held in private.
