Obituary for Woodrow "Woody" DeGeorge

SEYMOUR, CT: Woodrow B. DeGeorge, “Woody”, age 94 a lifelong resident of Seymour, entered into peaceful rest on June 12, 2022 at his home. He was the beloved husband of 73 years to the late Irene (Michalska) DeGeorge. Woody was born on August 1, 1927 in Seymour, son of the late Joseph DeGeorge of Persia and Freida (Harte) DeGeorge of Germany. While attending Seymour High School, he left to join the Merchant Marines in WWII; when the war was over he returned to finish high school and was married in 1948. He joined the Marines in the Korean War, and was transferred to an army base for engineering training. Upon completion he was transferred to Quantico and Barstow, CA, where he worked in a Marine supply station, and Irene worked in an office near by. Every morning he played the trumpet for the raising of the flag.

Woody worked at the Kerite Company in Seymour and also at the Farrel Corp.in Ansonia where he was employed as a draftsman until he retired in 1984. In his profession, he made wooden scale models of machinery at home which were sent out all over the world. Woody was a communicant of St. Nicholas Parish-St. Augustine Church. He enjoyed trips to Cape Cod, and bus trips to the Casino, woodworking in his basement, Square Dancing, playing cards, and also playing his trumpet. He showed his grandchildren how to make and paint crafts many of which were sold at local craft fairs.

Woody leaves his loving family including his daughters, Rebecca Flaherty of Oxford, and Gail Moir (Sheldon) of Seymour, and; his grandchildren, Stephanie Kulakowski (Derek), Scott Flaherty, Crystal Kirkendol (Troy), Kurt Flaherty (Ashley), and Kevin Flaherty (Jessica); also his great grandchildren, Brantley, Brooklynn, Kamryn, Emmelyn, Lucas, Taylor, and Connor. He was predeceased by his brothers, Perry, Joseph, Elisha, Fred, and Clarence.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on July 27th at 10 AM at St. Nicholas Parish-Saint Augustine Church, 35 Washington Ave., Seymour. Interment will be at Mountain Meadows Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be sent to C.A.R.E.S.
