The Phone Call

My wife and I have been together for about 12 years and almost every week for those 12 years there has been “The Phone Call.”  Now you might be thinking that there is nothing special about a phone call, but this one was different.  Sandra would call my wife Edna (or the other way around) starting about 9:00am every Saturday morning.  This call was not the simple “hey, how are you doing” phone call, it was a talking marathon that would only end when the batteries in the phone were completely dead or one of life’s emergency’s would finally interrupt it.  So what I am saying here is that this phone call lasted anywhere between 4 to 8 hours every Saturday.  My first phone service at my new house was not adequate enough to handle this conversation marathon, so I eventually had to switch to an unlimited talk time plan. But then came the complaining about the stiff neck my wife was getting holding up the phone for that length of time.  The solution was not shorter phone calls; it was to buy a headset so she could walk around while conversing. It did not seem to matter where we were or what we were doing at the time, “The phone call” took priority.  At first I might have been a little irritated that my wife was spending all this time on the phone, but it made her and Sandra happy so who was I to complain.  To this day I do not have a clue what was discussed in these phone calls and what life events were happening that would take eight hours to explain, but truthfully, I really don’t want to know.  All I know is that two sisters enjoyed time together on the phone every Saturday and that “The Phone Call” will be greatly missed.
