Obituary for Adele R. Strumello (Kendzierski)

Adele R. Strumello (Kendzierski)
Adele Rose (Kendzierski) Strumello, age 84, of Seymour and formerly of Barefoot Bay, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013. Born in Ansonia, Connecticut, September 3, 1929, daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Orzechowski) Kendzierski, Adele attended public and parochial schools in Ansonia. As a young woman, she worked in local factories before marrying the love of her life, Norman F. Strumello Sr., on Oct. 1, 1949. Together they raised four children in the house that Norm built on the edge of the family dairy farm in Seymour. Norm and Adele met at a polka dance, and dancing remained a life-long passion. They traveled the East Coast going to polka dances, and were popular dance teachers at local organizations in the Naugatuck Valley and in Florida. They retired to a community they called their Florida paradise, Barefoot Bay, in 1992. When Adele and Norm weren't enjoying walks along the Indian River, they could be found at the Polish-American Club in Vero Beach. Adele continued to live in Barefoot Bay after Norm died in 1996 and remained an active volunteer at the Polish-American Club until moving back to the Valley in 2004. For the past seven years, Adele was a resident of Bishop Wicke Health Care Center in Shelton where she was well loved and cared for by the staff. Adele is survived by her children, Diane Strumello of Seymour, Linda Stochmal and her husband Charles, of Seymour, Deborah Holmes and her husband Kendall, of South Gardiner, Maine, and Norman Strumello Jr. of Seymour. She also leaves five grandchildren, Kathryn DiBona, Matthew and Christopher Stochmal, Adam and Dana Holmes, two great-grandchildren, Sean and Taylor DiBona, sister-in-law Arlene Kendzierski, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 3 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 75 Derby Ave., Derby, CT. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Garden Fund at Bishop Wicke Health Care Center, 584 Long Hill Ave., Shelton, CT. 06484. Care of Adele and her family has been entrusted to Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. For directions or to share a memory please go to www.hullfh.com
