Obituary for Charles M. Spear

Charles M.  Spear
Beacon Falls, CT: Charles M. Spear, age 86 of Beacon Falls entered into peaceful rest December 4, 2008 at Beacon Brook Health Center, Naugatuck; he was the beloved of fifty six years to Ilse (Hofmann) Spear. Mr. Spear was born May 17, 1922 in Northfield, VT, son of the late Charles and Mary (Ryan) Spear. Charles retired as a Staff Sergeant after twenty two years from the U.S. Army and had served in WW II in the Pacific Theater of Operations in the Fiji Islands; in earlier years he was an Army Buglar and also played in Army bands. Following his Army service Charles became employed by the Farrel Corp., Ansonia and retired from there also as a Machine Operator. Mr. Spear was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, he was a Life Member of the Naugatuck VFW, and was a member of the David S. Miles Post 174 American Legion, Oxford. In his leisure time Charles enjoyed reading.

In addition to his wife Ilse, Charles leaves his loving family including, his daughter, Charlene DeCampos and her husband Edgar of Beacon Falls, a brother, William Spear and a sister, Elizabeth Laughlin both of Northfield, VT, his cherished grandsons, Justin and Jakob, and several nieces and nephews. His sisters, Margaret Hebert, Mildred Nelson, and Madeline Spear predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9 am from the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour to Saint Michaels Church, 25 Maple Avenue, Beacon Falls where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am. Interment with full Military Honors will be in Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial gifts may be sent to St. Michael's Church, Building Fund.
