Obituary for Donald W. Lannon

Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour, to the United Church, Beacon Falls for 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial gifts may be sent to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Spring Rd., Yorktown Heights, NY 10598. For directions CANTON, CT: Donald W. Lannon, age 63 of Old Mill Drive, formerly of Beacon Falls, entered into peaceful rest July 25, 2005 in Hartford. He was born May 14, 1942 in Boston, MA, son of the late William and Phyllis (Ouimet) Lannon. Donald resided in Canton for the past seven years. Mr. Lannon was retired as a Connecticut District Manager from Supermarkets General where he was employed twenty years until he became disabled in 1983. He was a member of the North Canton Community United Methodist Church, and formerly of the United Church of Beacon Falls. Donald was a twenty six year member with perfect attendance of the Canton Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones Award for exceptional humanitarian services; he was a former member of the Beacon Falls Lions Club. Mr. Lannon was very active with Guiding Eyes for the Blind where he dedicated countless efforts to raise funds for this organization which provides seeing eye dogs free of charge to the legally blind the world over; he has received numerous awards for his extraordinary commitment and devotion to the guide dog movement. He was also a member of the Friendship Circle of Avon, and had attended the Farmington Valley Men’s Club. His family wishes to thank everyone who has supported Don through the years.
Donald’s joy in life was his family and friends. He had an enormous zest for life. Despite his disabilities he was always energetic and positive. Don will always be remembered and cherished as a positive and giving man.
Donald leaves his loving family including two daughters, Christine Ronge and her husband David of Canton with whom he resided, and Jennifer Lannon of Waterbury, three sisters, Lynn Johnson in New Jersey, Jean Playford in New York, and Beth Colon in Florida, a brother, Butch Hagstrom in New York, also four grandchildren, Lauren, Kaitlyn and Jonathan Ronge all of Canton, and Marissa Douglas of Waterbury, and his former wife Carol A. Lannon of Beacon Falls.
