BRIDGEWATER, CT, and FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA:
Dr. William Cohen MD died suddenly May 27, 2003 at New Milford Hospital, New Milford, CT; Dr. Cohen was at his vacation home in Bridgewater, CT at the time he was stricken.
Dr. Cohen received his medical degree from the University of Maryland in 1953. He completed his surgical residency with the U.S. Army at Letterman Hospital, San Francisco, CA He remained in the army until 1967 when he moved to South Florida and opened a private practice in Plantation. He continued to practice general surgery in the FT. Lauderdale area until retiring last year. For the past several years he was a general and trauma surgeon with the Trauma Services Department at Broward General Medical Center.
Dr. Cohen is survived by his wife of twenty four years, Mary Ellen (Hofmann) Cohen, and their daughter Blakeley Anne Cohen of Ft. Lauderdale, in addition to three other children, Wendy Finklea of Land’O Lakes, FL, Jon Cohen of Jupiter, FL, and Barbara Dunning of Valrico, FL., and five grandchildren, a brother, Dr. David Cohen, and a sister, Anita Miller both of Baltimore, MD, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in celebration of Dr. Cohen’s life will be held Monday at 4:00 p.m. in the Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home, 718 South Federal Highway, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour, CT is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Association.
