OXFORD, CT: Evelyn Ballas age 79 of Oxford entered into peaceful rest February 11, 2009 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford; she was the beloved wife of Nicholas J. Ballas. Mrs. Ballas was born March 31, 1929 in Amesbury, MA, daughter of the late Pierre and Anna (O’Farrell) Royer. Evelyn was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church; her interests included handcrafts like knitting and needlepoint, she also enjoyed gardening especially her rose bushes. She and her husband Nicholas had a love of travel and enjoyed driving cross-country and to Canada to visit family. Evelyn also had a love of animals.

In addition to her husband, Evelyn leaves her loving family including two sons, Nick Ballas and his wife Cheryl of Storrs, and Keith Ballas and his wife Sandy of Wylie, TX, a daughter, Helene Cole and her husband Russell of Oxford, four brothers, Hebert Royer, Gerard Royer, Ernest Royer, and Robert Royer, three sisters, Theresa Nadeau, Helen Wright, and Martha Ellison all in Canada, five grandchildren, Russell Cole. III, Christina Cole, Brian Ballas, Stephen Ballas, and Michael Ellingson, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:00 am from the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 west Church Street, Seymour to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Connecticut Veteran’s Cemetery, Middletown.
