Frederick S. 'Cy' Daly, 86, died October 20, 2009. He was a native of Bridgeport, CT. A decorated veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Cy was wounded in action serving in the South Pacific theater during WWII. Following the war, Cy attended the University of Connecticut where he began a degree in Business Management, while also playing as a guard and Team Captain for the UCONN 'Huskies' basketball team. Cy transferred to the University of Bridgeport where he finished his degree, while making important contributions to the UB 'Purple Knight' basketball and baseball teams. He played and coached semi-pro basketball.
Cy began his professional career as a management trainee with Raybestos, Inc. in Stratford, CT. His career with the company ended with his retirement as President of Raybestos Manhattan Friction Materials, 37 years later.
Cy was a lifelong athlete, earning numerous championship titles in team and individual efforts at basketball, bowling, and golf; he was also an avid swimmer, even into the last weeks of his life.
Cy Daly was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Evelyn, and is survived by his six children, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
