Obituary for James A. Westhaver, Jr.

OXFORD, CT: James A. Westhaver, Jr., age 72 of Fairfield Road entered into peaceful rest April 20, 2004 at his home with his devoted family by his side; he was the beloved husband of Rosemary (Forde) Westhaver. Mr. Westhaver was born January 21, 1932 in Stoneham, MA, son of the late James A., Sr., and Alba (Sanborne) Westhaver (his adopted mother), and Marion (Ober) Westhaver (his biological mother). James was a retired employee of the Southern New England Telephone Company where he worked for more than thirty years. He was a resident of Oxford since 1968, and was a communicant of the Great Hill United Methodist Church, Seymour where he also sang in the choir, and had served of numerous committees. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves, and was a graduate of the Admiral Farragut Academy of New Jersey. James, formerly volunteered as a Troop Leader as a member of the Housatonic Council Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Westhaver was a graduate of the Class of 1951, Melrose High School, Melrose, MA; he enjoyed woodworking, and was an avid New England Patriots Football fan.
Besides his wife he leaves his loving family including three sons, James Brenton Westhaver of Waterbury, Gerald Francis Westhaver of Berlin, Germany, and Richard James Westhaver of Naugatuck, four daughters, Debra Arditti of Upper Saddle River, NJ, Bonnie Porcu of Seymour, Kathryn Johnson of Waterbury, and Judith Westhaver of Seymour, also four cherished grandchildren.
A Memorial Service in celebration of the life of James Westhaver will be held May 8, 2004 in the Great Hill United Methodist Church, 225 Great Hill Road, Seymour at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mountain Meadows Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Great Hill United Methodist Church, or to the V.N.S. Hospice, 84 Oxford Road, Oxford, CT 06478.
