Condolence From: Michelle Ciastko (formerly Michelle Riley)
Condolence: Dear Janice, John, David, and Family,

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of your beloved, husband and father/grandfather. It was such a pleasure to have known such a wonderful person. I remember the many times I encountered John as he drove up Tuttle Court while John and David were building their homes and subsequently visiting, as well as many town functions. I have recently remarried and relocated and I haven't been able to keep in touch or see many friends, but I want to let you know that all of those who have touched my life will always be remembered. I am sending my deepest sympathies to all of you at this most difficult time. With love, Michelle Ciastko (Riley) Douglas Jr. and Sean Riley

Condolence From: Jan Brinton
Condolence: Dear Janice, John, & David,

We were all shocked and saddened when we heard about John's sudden death. Perhaps there is some solace in that he died doing something he enjoyed in a place that he loved to be.

Upon Gordon's sudden death he stepped up to lead the town through changing times. He worked hard in his construction business as well as long hours at the town hall. He and Bob spent a lot of time together checking out town projects and personally overseeing various
jobs that were being carried out to improve the town. John always wanted to do what was best for Bethany.

We were appreciative of your invitations to stop and visit with you in Maine when we were on our way to the island. Seeing you and John at the house that he built for you and your children was always a treat.

Our dinners out with John, you and the Hungerfords in Maine always were full of laughter and good food. When you came to the island and we all went to dinner out on the patio in Bass Harbor, we continued to laugh and enjoy our meals together.

Our gatherings for dinner at the restaurant on the dock in Belfast with you and the Hungerfords caused so much laughter that it was hard to swallow. I will always remember him with a smile and a tear when I pass by Belfast.

Love to all of you,

Jan Brinton

I was so sorry to read of John's passing. Seeing his picture and reading about your family brought back so many memories of the good times we had in high school. I can only imagine how much you will miss him. You and your family will be in my prayers.
