Obituary for Joseph Lucas

Oxford, CT: Joseph A. Lucas, age 86 of Freeman Road, entered into peaceful rest May 25, 2003 at his home. Mr. Lucas was born February 11, 1917, in Yonkers, NY, son of the late John and Anna (Slatehalbal) Lucas. He was an Oxford resident since 1956. Joseph was a retired machine operator from Remington Arms, Bridgeport. He was WW II U.S. Navy Veteran, and a member of the David S. Miles Post 174, American Legion; a communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, Yonkers, NY. Joseph was a an All American swimmer, and taught swimming in the Navy. He was a former volunteer firefighter with he Riverside Fire Co.; Joseph was an avid golfer, and was a past member of the former Great Hill Golf Course; he was known to have achieved several hole in one shots. Mr. Lucas was a lover of nature, and was passionate about feeding the birds, and woodland animals around his home.
Joseph leaves his loving family including a sister Frances Hanudel of Toledo, OH, and nephews, and nieces, John Lucas of Oxford, John Hanudel of Ossining, NY, Paul Hanudel of Toledo, OH, George Gorkowski of Phoenix, AZ, and Jack Bova of Readers Digest, NY., Marion Gray of Oxford, Anna Hanudel of Toledo, OH, and Harriet Mangert of Palm Coast, FL. Joseph’s brother Edward Lucas, and sisters, Betty Gorkowski and Annmarie Bova predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. Interment with full Military Honors will be in Riverside Cemetery, Oxford.
