Obituary for Josephine Hesla-Figola

WATERBURY, CT: Josephine Figola-Hesla, age 89 of Waterbury, a former longtime resident of New York, NY, entered into peaceful rest January 10th at the West Haven Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, West Haven. She was born November 16, 1918 in Bronx, NY, daughter of the late Salvatore and Francesca (Crocco) Figola. Josephine resided most of her life in Manhattan, and was very active there; she was a retired Model and Actress, and Hand Model. Josephine was a WW II U.S. Navy Veteran and had served in Florida; she held the rank of Chief Yeoman. Josephine was very active in volunteer and community activities including fundraising efforts for the Navy League, which she was also a Life Member; she was instrumental in establishing the Women’s Armed Service Memorial, and the WW II Veteran’s Memorial in Washington D.C. She was Past President of the W.A.V.E.S. of WW II, a member of Rhinelander Post 6, American Legion both of New York, NY. Josephine was associated with the Visiting Nurse Service, New York, NY, and was a member of the Presentation Committee of the International Debutant Ball. Josephine was a Dame of Grace of the Knights of St. John Hospitaller, New York, NY.
Josephine leaves her beloved daughter Stephanie Budin and her husband Cortland, and her cherished granddaughter, Cerridwen Budin all of Waterbury, a sister, Florence Cassidy in New York, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with full Military Honors will be celebrated at the convenience of the family in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA Family and friends may call in the Ralph E.
