Life Story for Lois Jennie Akley (Knapp)

Lois Jennie  Akley (Knapp)
Mrs. Lois J. (Knapp) Akley, age 76, beloved wife of the late Newell Akley of Seymour, passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Hewitt Health and Rehabilitation, Shelton.

She was born on September 30, 1933 in Seymour to the late Coleman and Helen (Cooper) Knapp. Mrs. Akley was a lifelong resident of Seymour. She was a parishioner of Seymour Congregational Church and enjoyed working in the nursery.

Mrs. Akley is survived by six daughters, Helen Ann Catlin and her husband David of Oxford, Shirley Ann Anderson and her husband Robert of Naugatuck, Barbara Merritt of Bridgeport, Thelma Talisman and her husband Frederic of Naugatuck, Donna Akley of Derby and Rachel Santini and her husband Bill of Derby. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, her sister Mabel Kezelevich and her husband Robert of Seymour, brother in law, Henry Hook and several nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Doris Merritt and her sister Ruth Hook and her great granddaughter, Kailyn Fanton predeceased her.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, May 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a service to follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Avenue, Meriden, CT 06450. The family would like to thank all of the Physicians and Staff at Griffin Hospital, The Center for Cancer Care and Milford Hospital for all of the great care given to Lois. We would also like to thank both ombudsmen for their voices during her care.
